As reported by the Human Rights Campaign, the New York state Senate is coming into a special session and will review, among other things, the subject of same-sex marriages in the state.
New Yorkers, this is your chance.
You’ve got a Governor who has not only supported this legislation, but in fact specifically asked for it. And a recent survey shows that 51% of registered voters in New York support marriage by same-sex couples.
Here’s what you can do, New Yorkers: pick up your phone and call your state Senator. Tell him or her that you want marriage equality in your state, and that you expect your elected state Senators to show their commitment to equal treatment under the law.
C’mon, New York… A year from now I’ll once again be trying like hell to move up there. Don’t let me down!

EDIT: It turns out that the special session of the Senate isn’t valid for legislative purposes if the Assembly isn’t in session also; special sessions for the Senate can only be used for business handled only by the Senate, like confirming appointees. So the session was canceled, and the bills that were passed yesterday were deemed invalid. The marriage equality bill will need to wait until both houses of the legislature are called back into session. Stay tuned!
