Seminole, Texas

Turns out I’m headed to Texas in a couple of months… I’ll be flying into the booming metropolis of Lubbock, eventually making my way to the town of Seminole, Texas. Seminole boasts 3.3 square miles, 5,910 people according to the 2000 Census, a per-capita income of $14,624 annually, and is the county seat for Gaines County. It’s the birthplace of Country music singers Larry Gatlin and Tanya Tucker.

And it’s the hometown of a Mr. Salvador Garcia.

Yep, we’re goin’ back home to Texas to spend a weekend with the family. I’ve met Sal’s mom twice now — last May in NYC for his college graduation, and when she stayed with us Charlotte for several days earlier this year — but now we’re expanding to his two sisters and assorted nieces and nephews. And of course, since this is Sal we’re talking about, there will certainly be plenty of teachers to catch up with.

Sal’s already warned me that I’m going to be SO mad at him when we get there. Something about the nearest Starbucks being over an hour away…

Wish me luck!

You could also go to George Bush’s childhood home and museum. It’s just down the road in Midland:

Sounds like good, fascist fun for the whole family!
