I adore going on oceanic cruises (i.e. not “cruising” you perverts) and rate them among my favorite vacations. So you can imagine my horrified temptation when I saw this cruise special departing from New York.
I have given all of my credit cards to the dogs to hide for me.
Seriously, this looks phenomenal… It’s the Norwegian Jewel, departing from New York with the following itinerary:
Day 1 – Leave New York, NY at 4:00pm
Day 2 – At Sea
Day 3 – Arrive in Port Canaveral, FL at 12:00pm and depart at 10:00pm
Day 4 – Great Stirrup Cay (Bahamas) from 11:00am to 6:00pm
Day 5 – Nassau (Bahamas) from 8:00am to 6:00pm
Day 6 – At Sea
Day 7 – At Sea
Day 8 – Return to New York, NY at 8:00am
Yes, it actually includes a ten-hour stop back in my home town of Cocoa Beach (next to the port) which would let me visit with family and friends for a few hours… And it includes a day at a private island, which was one of my favorite parts of the cruise I went on a few years back. (Being able to just swipe your cruise card for drinks is entirely too convenient.)
And three full days at sea? Honestly, that tends to be more fun than the traditional touristy island bits, in my opinion. (Though again: private island = AWESOME.)
The cost is $399 per person plus taxes and such, and that includes your cabin, all meals and some beverages, all of the entertainment, etc. Basically you’re just paying for booze on the boat, shore excursions, gratuities, and souvenirs. And for me personally, usually a case or two of duty-free alcohol on the ship to bring home with me.
Look, I know I’m broke. You know I’m broke, if you read GatorUptown.com with any regularity. But often one of the most expensive parts about a cruise is getting to the port, and this one leaves from my city… And for a little more than $50 a day (plus tax) to cover your cabin and meals? It’s hard to beat that kind of vacation value.
If you have the money, which I don’t. But damn, I may have to start trying to find where the dogs hid my credit cards.

I LOVE Norwegian Cruise Lines!
