“Once the Musical” on Broadway

I’ve seen a string of musicals based on popular films lately, and they’ve been a real mixed bag. So it was with some apprehension that I went to see “Once” on Broadway recently.

It turned out to be wonderful. A truly moving theatrical experience.

“Ghost the Musical” on Broadway

I’m glad they brought it to the stage, but they never should have made it a musical.

“Wit” on Broadway

Some while back, I was introduced to the 2001 film Wit starring Emma Thompson. The movie was gripping and fascinating, so naturally I was excited last weekend to see the stage production starring Cynthia Nixon from Sex in the City.

In a strange way, I enjoyed the show partially in spite of the lead, not necessarily because of her.

“Warhorse” on stage

Right around Christmas, the Spielberg film “Warhorse” hit movie theaters, and I was intrigued — except, I hadn’t seen the Tony Award-winning stage play yet, which I was determined to do first.

This past weekend, I finally got to see the play. It was definitely worth the wait, though I admit to being surprised in a few ways. So here it is: my review of Warhorse.

“Catch Me if You Can”

Last night I saw “Catch Me if You Can” starring Norbert Leo Butz and Aaron Tveit, based upon the 2002 film with Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio.

I absolutely and without reservation LOVED this show. And as my readers no doubt recognize from my sometimes scathing theatre posts, you don’t get completely appreciative reviews from me often.
