“Warhorse” on tour

March 24, 2012

I posted a couple of months ago about the fantastic stage production of Warhorse at Lincoln Center. I’m delighted to report that it’s going on tour, and I have an incredible video to share with you.

Recorded from a 2012/2013 season announcement event in Charlotte, this video shows Joey in action in a delightful “behind the scenes” look at how he’s operated.

“Newsies: the Musical” on Broadway

March 22, 2012

Last week I got to see the first Broadway preview of Newsies and am delighted to say, it was phenomenal. It’s quite honestly the best “song and dance” musical I’ve seen in years.

And though it may seem blasphemy to some, I have to confess it was much better than the Disney film that inspired it.

Charlotte hosts

March 19, 2012

Since moving to New York in September, I’ve been back to Charlotte seven times. Several of those were for work, warranting a hotel room, but on occasion I’ve stayed with Charlotte friends at their home.

And I really just need to pause for a moment to say thank you.

Home vs. Home

March 13, 2012

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been almost six months since I moved from Charlotte to New York. In that time I’ve been back to visit six times, and it’s really highlighted a perhaps not-too-surprising fact.

New York feels like home… Until I arrive back in Charlotte, where I feel like I’ve returned home… For a few days, and then I miss New York.

First look at HALO 4!

March 7, 2012

Halo 4, the upcoming release in the beloved Halo franchise for Xbox, is being produced by a new company for the first time. The developers at 343 Industries have released a “making of” video that reveals some tantalizing details about the new game.

And here it is:

Job updates

March 6, 2012

A few months ago I was all angst-ridden about feeling like my job wasn’t giving me enough of an opportunity to make an impact. And then, a couple of weeks ago my boss abruptly left the company.

It was certainly enough to make a person very uncertain about his job prospects, let me tell you. And the recent round of layoffs wasn’t helping calm people’s nerves down any.

Corporate Layoffs

March 5, 2012

Back in September, my company had a big round of layoffs and a number of people I know were impacted. Last month, several more colleagues resigned after collecting a bonus check for 2011. And last week, another big round of layoffs hit.

I’ll tell you, I’ve never been more nervous about the long-term job security at my employer. It’s a tough time to be in this industry.

In difficult times, I usually turn to humor (often ill-advised or poorly timed) to work through my nervousness. So this image from Animals Talking In All CAPS gave me a good laugh and a much-needed release of nervous tension:

“8″: A Play about the Fight for Marriage Equality

March 4, 2012

Dustin Lance Black (screenwriter of Milk) and director Rob Reiner collaborated to produce a play called 8 about the court battle over California’s Proposition 8 ballot initiative against same-sex marriage. An incredible star-studded reading of the play in California on Saturday was recorded and is available on YouTube.

I am utterly transfixed. And you can be too — see below.

Canine terror

March 1, 2012

I posted recently about the staggering foolishness of people who approach dogs they don’t know with a dangerous lack of respectful caution around animals. What I failed to mention, though, was the even more ridiculous behavior of people who have way too much caution, and make things infinitely worse through their behavior.

It’s amazing the foolish ways grown adults will behave sometimes.

Rafting’s back!

February 29, 2012

Okay, I know I haven’t exactly been subtle about my love of the U.S. National Whitewater Center. But I gotta tell you, I’m a little perturbed at this video that the USNWC posted yesterday.

Check it out:
