Weekend in review

What a great weekend! The day started off BRILLIANTLY with me waking up with Sadie snuggled next to me. She had a hot date at the groomers to get her hair did, her teef did, her nails did… the works! Brandon swung by to bring her rabies vaccination paperwork, with a pair of lattes as a nice bonus. We watched a little Best Week Ever, the three of us, just like old times. I left and dropped off Sadie, then noticed a Jiffy Lube across the street from Petsmart, and it got me thinking…

I’m a bad car owner.

I literally could not REMEMBER the last time I got my oil changed. Granted, I drive about 20 miles a month, so it’s not like I’ve been abusing my car… But still, it’s been a long time. So I went and got the oil changed, and then noticed that they had an inspection line. Ya see, North Carolina requires an annual inspection, and if you don’t get it, they put a block on your registration. Mine was due in December, and I kept forgetting to get it, so the state sent me a semi-friendly reminder. Here I was, in town on a Saturday, no out-of-town guests… Perfect time to get it taken care of!

Ugh.

I ended up having to replace both front tires in order to pass the inspection. And of course, it was Easter weekend, so half of Charlotte is closed. I ended up having to buy brand new ones instead of copping out and buying retreads or some other cheap alternative (as little as I drive, I figured that’d be good enough… no such luck) $150 later, and it took seemingly FOREVER to get them put on. But to be fair, it definitely needed to be done. I’d been worried about blowing a tire for awhile now. Each time I drive to the airport I worry that I won’t make it there and I PROMISE to get them looked at when I return, then when I make it home afterwards I forget all about it. So, at least that’s taken care of.

Then Saturday night I had some friends over for an evening at home. We ordered take-out from Hawthorne’s, shot the breeze, watched some TV, and in general just hung around the house together. The evening finished off with a rerun of Saturday Night Live and another night of sleep cuddled up with Sadie.

Yesterday was another quiet day — in fact I never ventured farther from home than to walk Sadie ’round the building. Caught up on some Netflix movies… In fact, I watched “Bill Maher: I’m Swiss” in protest of Easter Sunday. Eric and Parker came by to hang out for a bit, which was a pleasant distraction. Brandon came and picked up Sadie. I took a nap, then got up and watched “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zassou” I gotta tell ya, I just don’t GET some of Wes Anderson’s comedy. I remember watching “The Royal Tenenbaums” but don’t remember a thing about it other than my disappointment. I guess it’s just not my thing.

Anyway, a nice weekend, very quiet and restful, which is good ’cause I was getting over the beginnings of a cold. I think all that back-to-back travel caught up with me, but I appear (knock on wood) to have nipped that in the bud. I’ve got a busy week ahead of me, which will no doubt be chronicled here. Stay tuned.

I miss Sadie already 😦
