Hotels in New Orleans are shutting down today — ALL of them.  The best part is, we weren’t originally told by the hotel — we were told by an Associated Press reporter that wanted to interview us about what we were going to do.  I had to leave Sal to be interviewed while I tracked down the scoop from the hotel!   Click here for an article about the evacuation.  So yeah, we were told we had to evacuate, and given instructions for how to get to the airport.

Pshaw!  Right!  Shirley Q Liquor is performing tonight.  You can bet your sweet bippy we’re going to be there if she is.  SUCK IT, Hurricane Gustav!

Seriously, I understand why everyone is being so proactive this time, I really do… After the horrible response in the face of Katrina three years ago, I don’t blame the authorities for getting the gears turning sooner rather than later.  I just wish they’d calm down a TOUCH!  The citywide evacuation isn’t scheduled until tomorrow, and Sal and I have both gotten on a 7:40am flight tomorrow morning anyway… JUST ONE MORE NIGHT is all we need in this hotel!

So right now, we’re really not sure what we’re going to do tonight.  We’ll probably be trying to rely on the kindness of new friends here in New Orleans for a floor to crash on, and then we’ll head to the airport at dawn.  Wish us luck.

Suggestion sweeties – Find a friend to leave your bags at until tonight, see Shirley and then go to the airport tonight. It will be a madhouse there and the earlier you get there – the better you’ll be able to deal. Stay safe!

Kevin please don’t get yourself and Sal killed. I’d really like to love on you both more. lol

And I agree with Melanie. You know that airport is going to be a clusterF&2K tomorrow.

  4. […] Gustav barreled down on the city and forced an evacuation. (You can read about the weekend here, here, and here.) I still had an amazing visit, but it was the first time in my life (despite growing up […]
