Metrolina Theatre Association (MTA) Awards

The MTA Awards nominations are finally posted! This is an exciting day for the local Charlotte-area theatre community. The MTAs are like the local Tony Awards, complete with a full awards ceremony and such. I haven’t been to one yet, but I’m definitely looking forward to this year’s. Here’s a blurb from the press release:

The Metrolina Theatre Awards recognize outstanding performances and creative elements in 7 categories (Drama, Comedy, Musical, Regional–North, Regional–South, College/University, and Special Event). This year, there will be around 90 recipients. MTA organizes more than 80 peer nominators; this year, MTA nominators attended 105 adjudicated shows, submitting thousands of nominations. They then complete a preliminary ballot to select the award nominees. The final vote is certified by an independent accountant, and winners are announced at the awards ceremony.

Be sure to check out the full list of nominees, but I wanted to call out a few nominations in particular that I’m excited about. (And by “a few” I mean a few dozen… get comfortable)

I made a very quick run through the giant list, but there are undoubtedly other performances and contributions that I should be applauding as well… For now, this will have to do.  And for the record, I haven’t seen all of these shows, just most of them. A few nominations are listed above simply because I’m excited for that individual.

Congratulations to these and all other nominees! I’m looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday, September 20th at the awards reception.
