Me cooking dinner on Valentine’s Day is shocking enough, but believe it or not, I can beat that. Sal and I got a package in the mail this weekend.
From Sal’s mother.
Like many mothers, Sal’s mom has had quite the journey with accepting her son’s homosexuality, and accepting me as the living breathing proof of it. We first met at Sal’s college graduation in NYC, then she came to stay with us for awhile during Sal’s first show in Charlotte.
Gradually, she warmed up to me.
This became obvious when Sal and I visited his home town last Fall, to see his family and spend some quality time in West-By-God Texas. She made it pretty clear then that I was part of the family, and I was profoundly touched.
But damn, she’s outdone herself now.
Sal’s mom sent us each a Valentine’s Day card, and included as a gift a jigsaw puzzle made out of a photo of Sal and me together. It’s a silly, thoughtful gesture, and I got a little teary-eyed when I saw it.
Wow. What a journey she’s made… What a difference a year can make.
Naturally, I took all the credit, and warned Sal that he’d better hang onto me ’cause miracles like this don’t happen again. 😛
AWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!
Now that’s a beautiful valentine’s gift!
That is SO cute! 🙂
