Westboro Baptist Church vs. Dr. Phillips High School

My disdain for the Westboro Baptist Church is well known to frequent readers of GatorUptown.com, so perhaps one would think that WBC’s hateful shenanigans wouldn’t phase me anymore… But once again, they’re going up against schoolchildren, which is a sure way to piss me off in a hurry. And this time, they’re doing it not far from my hometown.

Yes, the hateful lunatics who brought us www.godhatesfags.com and pickets of military funerals are once again picketing outside a high school, for added shock value and to ensure that the whole world sees what complete scumbags they are. Their target is the Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida next week.

In their press release, they say that they’re picketing outside the school to give the students “an opportunity to see what truth looks like” since parents apparently aren’t doing a good enough job, in the WBC’s opinion. But really, as with all of their picketing, I can’t help but wonder if they really believe they’re going to convert anyone to their point of view through these antics. I find it hard to believe that they accomplish much in the way of converting people to their point of view when they do these things… But then, it makes me wonder what they do hope to accomplish.

Here’s the full press release, for your viewing horror:

It is my belief that this protest would violate Florida’s anti-bullying law.
