Normally I’m very picky about not posting shameless pleas for money on GatorUptown.com, but in this case I’m going to make an exception. I’ve decided to get involved with AIDS Walk Charlotte for the first time, and I’m hoping my readers will help.
From the standard letter on the AIDS Walk Charlotte website:
I want to do as much as I can to make a difference in the lives of men, women, and children affected and infected by HIV and AIDS and help provide compassionate care for individuals living with HIV/AIDS in the Charlotte region.
Although drug treatments can prolong some people’s lives, they don’t work for everyone and there is still no cure in sight. Moreover, young people are still getting infected at alarmingly high rates.
I need your help. This is a very important issue to me so I have set an ambitious fundraising goal. Will you please sponsor me for the AIDS WALK Charlotte 2011?
On a more personal note, let’s be frank… AIDS is a health issue that impacts countless people in the Charlotte area and around the world. It’s not a gay issue, or a black issue, or an issue limited to any demographic. It’s a human issue, and it’s deadly, and we can help.
With that in mind, I’m asking you to go to my AIDS Walk page at http://aidswalkcharlotte.org/gatoruptown (yes, I used GatorUptown there too, I can’t help myself!) and make a donation. Any amount will help, though if you work for a big company, check to see if they have any sort of Matching Gifts program to match the contribution you make.
And if you’re in Charlotte, c’mon out and walk with me. It’s my first ever charitable “walk” and I would love the company.
