River Jams return!

It’s official — RIVER JAM season is upon us at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Every Thursday between now and September, there will be a live band out at the USNWC from 7:00-10:00.

Last year I only made it out to a couple of River Jams, but they truly are a lot of fun. Taken from the River Jam webpage:

The 2011 Whitewater River Jam begins on Thursday, May 5. We’ll be jamming every Thursday evening, from 7 – 10 p.m., May through September.

River Jam is an outdoor concert series at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Come out with friends and family to experience an incredible sunset over the Catawba River while enjoying great music, food and drink. The patio at the River’s Edge Bar & Grill is the place to be.

Join us for a paddle, bike, run or ride before the show and stay to enjoy our craft beers and good foods. We look forward to your visit.

Even more intriguing: The River’s Edge Bar & Grill has a new menu, with lots of tasty new entrees to sample. I almost always like to pair a good meal and a beer (or two) with a day of rafting, but I’ve been known to come up to the USNWC just to get a bite to eat even when I can’t raft. Pairing that with live bands is just plain devious… Damn them. (Side-note: new vegan and gluten-free options on the menu, for those with special dietary needs.)

I missed the first two River Jams this season because I had prior commitments… But I’m thinking this sounds like a great Thursday tradition, particularly since it’s such a dog-friendly location. Who wants to come have a puppy playdate with me over a bite/drink and some live music?
