Labor Day is a special holiday for me, as close friends can attest. And the U.S. National Whitewater Center is a special place for me, as damned near anyone who’s friends with me on Facebook or in Charlotte can attest. So merging the two together for a big special event sounds like a hell of a lot of fun.
Fortunately, the USNWC is accommodating, with the 2011 Labor Day Celebration.
In keeping with their tradition of hosting big events when there’s a 3-day-weekend prompted by a federal holiday, this year the Whitewater Center is bringing live bands and fireworks to help celebrate Labor Day. The party will be held on Sunday, September 4th, with music starting at 4:00pm and fireworks going off around dusk.
From the event webpage:
Come and join us on Sunday, September 4 to celebrate Labor Day weekend with a free concert and fireworks show.
We’ll be featuring the Steep Canyon Rangers and other bands throughout the day before launching a fireworks show over our whitewater river. The Washington Post calls the Steep Canyon Rangers, “One of the most engaging string bands around.” The Rangers are most recently known for touring alongside banjo-wielding funnyman Steve Martin.
The USNWC is the place to be this Labor Day weekend. We hope to see you playing outside during the day, and staying to enjoy the music and the fireworks at night.
And as they did with the 4th of July party, there will be VIP passes available for purchase.
It’s very possible that Labor Day weekend may be the last weekend I’m in Charlotte before relocating to New York City, if everything goes according to plan. I hope you’ll be able to come celebrate with me!
