I mentioned previously that this year’s Out & Equal Workplace Summit was the best yet, but I never followed up. It’s a little overdue, but I wanted to pause and reflect on happy developments.
Like the fancy award my company won.
Yes, I’m delighted to share that my company’s “LGBT Pride” group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees (and the straight allies who support them) won the “Outie Award” for employee resource group (ERG) of the year. It’s the first time in the history of the award that a financial services firm won the award.
I can’t tell you how proud I am of the LGBT Pride team — in the last year, we’ve worked hard to make a substantial impact in the careers and lives of our ERG members, and to bring awareness of LGBT issues to leaders and teammates around the world. We’ve educated, we’ve empowered, and we’ve shown people the personal impact that a company’s handling of LGBT issues can have on individual employees.
I could go on and on and the programs we’ve created, the educational sessions we’ve hosted with executives at the highest levels of the company, and the ways in which we’ve helped teammates feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work. But suffice it to say, the LGBT Pride team has really raised the bar this year, and I’m excited that Out & Equal Workplace Advocates recognized it.
