I posted a couple of months ago about the fantastic stage production of Warhorse at Lincoln Center. I’m delighted to report that it’s going on tour, and I have an incredible video to share with you.
Recorded from a 2012/2013 season announcement event in Charlotte, this video shows Joey in action in a delightful “behind the scenes” look at how he’s operated.
The “emotional indicator” pieces were fascinating to me. The descriptions of the ears and tail delighted me, as I’d specifically mentioned those in my review, but the breath was an interesting surprise. I hadn’t really given it much thought, until seeing this video.
I found the mechanics around walking, trotting, and galloping to be intriguing as well — during the performance, I never stopped to examine how the puppeteers in Joey actually controlled his legs, and certainly never thought about who was leading whom, etc. Really incredible work.
Oh, and the acting and story are good too. 🙂
A warm thanks to Blumenthal Performing Arts for bringing Joey in to Charlotte in advance of the tour. But whether you’re in Charlotte, New York, or anywhere else, I have clear instructions for you:
Go see Warhorse when it’s at a theatre near you!
