There’s a remarkable video making its way around the interwebz by sportscaster Dale Hansen about openly gay NFL draft Michael Sam. Some of the language is similar to Internet photo montage memes, so it’s familiar, but it’s still surprising. Check it out:
I’m not always comfortable when a man tells me he’s gay. I don’t understand his world. But I do understand that he’s part of mine.
I think it’s great to see Mr. Hansen acknowledging his own discomfort with something foreign to him, and even greater that he does so as part of a message of acceptance. We all have our biases and preconceived notions — some more than others, I suppose — and working to acknowledge and overcome them is a noble cause.
